This Christmas will be different. For the last 57 years we have had Christmas eve at my Grandma’s house, going from 12 people to over 50 in the tiny 4-room mansion. Grandma is in a nursing home now, and turns 100 in January, 2013. She sold that little house and told us 7 grandkids to take whatever we wanted. I took mostly Christmas ornaments and decor, because of the wonderful memories. Now I am a wee granny, and try to bless the lives of my grands as I have been blessed. = ) camarler at yahoo dot com

Following you in the hopes of winning the ornament wreath; however, the more I cruise around your blog site, the more I like what I see. I am sure there will be more for me to explore whether I am lucky enough to win the wreath.

My favorite part about Christmas is how this is one holiday that has more lifetime memories from before I was born and until now…My parents were married on Christmas Eve, 1943 and I was born on December 26 in 1948. Anniversaries and birthdays are difficult to celebrate as you are competing with the Mother of all holidays…Christmas…and yet, my parents found a way to mark each year in a special way. Birthday parties were few and far between – when I was 5, 13, and 18 only; however, the year I turned 6 was the year my brother and I both had German measles during the school break. Limited to brief moments of low light only, my father found ice cream snowballs and my birthday was celebrated with the snowballs lit by candles. It was magical. My in-laws were especially kind to mark my birthday with separate gifts, wrapped in birthday wrapping, etc. I recall their efforts with special fondness. My children are grown now and they have been making their mother’s birthday remarkable for years, even with all that their in-laws and young children demand from the holiday, too. I love them so for giving such careful thought to mark my day with extra care, even though I am of an age that forgetting a few birthdays would be a special kindness, too. Sigh! Christmas is special for me as it is for so many, many others, too. I have learned to share and still hold my select memories unto myself. Happy Christmas and have a wondrous 2015, too.
