I am excited to show you this child’s French style chair we gave my daughter for her birthday. You won’t believe the before picture… I used homemade chalk paint, distressed the chair, and reupholstered it to completely transform the chair into a keepsake for me my daughter.

Homemade Chalk Paint Chair
I was excited to receive this hand-me-down chair even though the bears made me coocoo! I loved the lines of the chair. Imagine my surprise when I found this French Style Child’s Chair for $178. Wow! I scored.
After removing the bear fabric… goodbye bears!
I used a $3 sample of paint and made homemade chalk paint with my chalk paint recipes. Check out the video for more information – I did not prime the chair in any way.
I decided to distress the chair because 1) I like the distressed look! 2) No matter how amazing homemade chalk paint is, it probably can’t stand up to three young kids indefinitely – without getting a scratch or two.
The chair before upholstering. Notice the beautiful sheen on the chair. Not only does it look pretty but it feels wonderful too.
For perspective… I sat the chair on top of the piano in our formal living room.
I love how this chair turned out. I’m also in love with this bird fabric! I wish I could give you the name of the fabric but the store wouldn’t tell me. What’s up with that?!?! If you are dying to get your hands on this fabric, find the store info here.
